In 2009 I bought a Boss BR-600 Digital Multitrack Recorder but, even though I was no stranger to music technology – I worked for Roland as product specialist / demonstrator throughout the 1980s – I couldn’t get to grips with using it. I once set it on a table to record the whole band on one track and then stashed it on a shelf for eleven years.
The enforced leisure of Lockdown has prompted me to dust it off and I purchased lifetime access to a BR-600 video tutorial by David Wills of ProAudioExp.com.
David’s easy style and clear explanations made using the recorder a breeze and an added bonus were the nuggets of recording techniques that he threw in along the way. I had great fun learning and knocked up a test piece within a day.
The BR-600 is long obsolete but ProAudioExp.com offers many other courses in aspects of recording and specific product courses, mainly recording, keyboards and effects devices. I would recommend them to any of my musician friends who, like me, weren’t getting the most from their equipment.
