Learning how to use your new Roland (Boss) DR-880 has never been easier thanks to the official Roland DVD Owner's Manual!

The DR-880 is a rhythm-programming powerhouse that’s loaded with world-class drum, percussion, and bass sounds from Roland’s famous SRX library. It also includes a stunning collection of original waveforms. You can get microscopic with the DR-880, but you also have the option of taking the simple route with its three EZ Compose buttons, which allow original patterns to be constructed without note-by-note programming hassles. Patterns can be taken deeper with the Groove Modify feature, where various groove and triplet feels can be applied. Ghost notes and fills can also be added automatically. Guitar and bass players can join the action by plugging directly to the DR-880’s Guitar/Bass Input jack, and playing through the built-in COSM® Drive/Amp models and multi-effects.

Essential viewing

Forget the manual, it comes nowhere close to revealing the hidden depths of this magnificent beat box. I have been able to put together some convincing demos to illustrate to my drummer what is needed to make the tracks sparkle. David is engaging, as ever, and instils confidence as he ploughs through the myriad of special treats in store for the owner of a DR880. Top notch.

VERY HELPFUL

The tutorial on my DR880 was very thorough and helpful and saved me a lot of time. And David was even helpful after the sale in answering a question I had. I’ll be back 👍

Typical David Wills = Another Brilliant Video Tutorial!

Upon reflection following my purchase, I have come to appreciate the satisfying quality of both the video and sound, especially the video quality in relation to the time it was produced. Additionally, the close-up shots of the Dr 880 drum machine are highly gratifying and facilitate effortless comprehension. I completed the tutorial in its entirety within a span of two days, as it captivated my attention throughout. The tutorial effectively demonstrates the impressive capabilities and authenticity of the drum patterns produced by this machine, which is remarkable considering its age of over a decade. In my personal experience, I find it to be more exciting and superior to both the Alesis, S16 and 18, as I have had the opportunity to own both of them. As a bassist, I possess the ability to sequence bass lines and subsequently utilise them to accompany guitar/drum performances. This capability greatly enhances the overall musical experience. The menus remind me of my late Boss BR8 recorder (video tutorial by David too) which were great and so familiar, anyway, thank you David!

The best way to learn the DR-880

After reading online, I came across a comment that said you should purchase this video to really learn the DR-880 and its capabilities. That advise was golden. While I normally just tinker around with gear ... I decided this was complicated gear, so I purchased the online version of the DR-880 tutorial and my expectations were not only met, but far exceeded. The online version is easy to watch and navigate. In just a few short sessions I had made it through the entire class and even watched a few of the sections twice because they were so well done. The instructor has a very clear way of explaining things and showing you examples of everything along the way. I found myself going over to my DR-880 and trying things out, or even repeating the materials myself to see if I had learned the techniques. This is far better than reading the 160+ page manual or watching people on youtube who don't really know what they are doing (and for the DR-880 there isn't anything even remotely close to this tutoria)l. Well worth the money!
