This video is very well done and complete as nessecary. I am a full time musician who uses the DP-24 to record my live performances and import them into my computer and recording software, (Steinberg in my case) This video had me running the machine like a pro in no time. If I would have ventured off on my own with nothing but the manual, much time would have been wasted, besides, it’s always better to watch a presentation than read yet another tech manual. I have thanked myself over and over for buying this and now even laugh at the fact that I thought I might not need it. Also, it’s nice to know that it’s on the shelf if I am entering new territory and need to refer to it. Even gives a little beginners class but gets into all of the more complex issues later on. Even though the Dp-24 is a dream machine as far as portastudios go and is far less complicated to operate compared to earlier generations (not to mention a DAW) I still consider this video a must have for any owner of a Dp-24 regardless of their technical ability.

I am a very novice musician and even more of a novice when it comes to being a home studio technician. After fiddling around with various computer recording software, I decided to step up to the plate and buy the Tascam DP-24 a couple months back. While the instruction book that comes with it is fair, I decided to buy the CD directly through the instructor’s website Proaudiodvds.com. The DVD is like having someone personally talk to you and demonstrates how to get you started on making a quality recording using the machine. For me, when I visually can see how to do something, the learning curve increases dramatically!
Along with instructions on how to operate the machine, the DVD also discusses items like types of microphones to use and other very help tutorials on other recording topics. Complete with a sample recording session using acoustic guitar, bass and vocal, David Wills demonstrates how you multi-track a recording right down to mixing and mastering your recording. Over two hours long, you won’t be disappointed in the quality and quantity of content this DVD provides.

I’ve never used any kind of audio recorder. So before I bought the unit itself, I bought this DVD tutourial. It was the best thing because after looking at the manual i know I would have had problems figuring it out. This DVD is comprehensive and step by step. There are also some helpful mixing and microphone tips that aren’t found in the manual. The DVD is about an hour and a half long and I probably watched it about 8 times and learned something new every time. It doesn’t ever get boring. So when I finally for the dp 24 I felt pretty comfortable with it. Do yourself a favor and get this DVD BEFORE you buy the unit.

This DVD delivers a comprehensive, no-nonsense introduction to the DP-24 nothing more and nothing less. Although I am very familiar with the Tascam “portastudio” product line (i had a porta 04 back in the 80s and more recently the dp-08 and dp-03) I was expecting a little bit more in depth information for non beginners but on that, it fell a little short. Some of the coolest features of the DP-24 are hardly covered here if at all, like mastering tools, some new cool editing options, effect send and also MIDI compatibility and CD burning just to name a few. The host is David Wills engineer to Phil Collins and Michael Jackson, who is quite amusing and makes it upbeat and fun to watch. If you are new to recording with a multitrack, this DVD is highly recommended as it will walk you thru assigning inputs, recording several tracks, overdubbing, effects and will give you a very short introduction to mixing. If you are familiar with Tascam multitracks and recording techniques you may learn just some particulars about how to move around the DP-24.

I’d had and used David Wells’ previous training DVD for the Tascam 2488, so I knew that his hands on approach to this newest member of the Tascam Portastudio family would come in handy and lessen the learning curve that goes along with new gear. I was not disappointed!

David’s training session is a beautifully balanced, succinct and informative introduction to recording with the Tascam DP24, especially for someone like me who has a lot of experience recording with home multitrack studios, but always could improve with some of the good habits and insights that David’s training video offers.

    Dear Dave,

You are the absolute MAN!! Thank you so much for what you do. I purchased The Tascam DP24 and your tutorial video and I can’t express how great both items are. I went to L.A. Recording Workshop in 2000 and have learned more from you in the videos and tutorials than I did at school when it comes to actually learning how to mix and get good sounds. My brother is a drummer in Brooklyn and I have introduced him to your videos because he just got pro-tools and has recorded his first 5 songs with his band. Thanks again David and keep up the amazing work.

    All my best, Will Esposito

First off let me say this is by far the best instructional video I have ever seen. This video saved me so much time learning how to properly run my Tascam DP32. I am seriously impressed with how professional David and his business is. If you have a Tascam DP24 or 32, do not hesitate…. BUY THIS DVD!! It will make your recording life so much easier. Thanks David!!

This DVD is a great learning tool. David is an awesome teacher that makes learning this equipment fun and interesting, and most importantly simple. I tried the manual and believe me, David does a much better job at instructing. This DVD is worth every penny!

    David is AMAZING!!!
He’s covered everything, in a calm and precise manner. He actually broke down all the fundamentals of this wonderful (Tascam DP32) machine. Every question I had, that wasn’t covered in the manual, is covered here in complete detail. Thank you David, for this important DVD training that handled everything that the poorly written manual failed to cover clearly! I recommend this DVD HIGHLY for anyone new to this machine, or anyone who doesn’t see clearly what the manual fails to cover.
    David IS the real deal!!!
You’ll enjoy his teaching, and his wisdom regarding, the art of recording. GUARANTEED!!!
I look forward to watching more of the DVD’s in the Master class learning series, and hoping that everyone enjoys these Training DVD’s as I have!!!
    WORTH IT!!!

    Best Regards
    Michael Penner

These vids by David have really helped me understand this new recorder, he knows his stuff and it sure makes it easier for folks like us when trying to start with something new. I can’t stop buying his video’s,my wife is gonna kill me! Oh well, thanks David!!

I was LOST on the intricacies of the DP-32SD and went online to see if there was anything out there to help as the manual is not very good. I came across David’s online tutorial and – oh my gosh – what this thing will do! He lays it out with enthusiasm and clarity like no other. I got so pumped I ordered the Ultimate Guitar Tone vids as well. Very simply, there is nothing better on the market than his tutorials. Thank you David!

Just received the DP24 DVD Tutorial. Watched it twice, so far. My thoughts are this:
Although this is based on an older model, (i.e CD burner), I just bought the newest DP24SD ,
the information is still relevant. Very well paced and has everything you need to set up, record, mix and master. All the rest of the magic is up to how you use it. Like many others, I started back in the 70s with a small cassette recorder placed in the middle of the room to record my band. Then moved to a Porta One, Yamaha MT8x cassette recorder, then Cakewalk Ver.3 -9, all the way to the recent Sonar Pro. For me, the DAWS hindered my output and creativity with all the tech issues. I decided on the DP008 Pocket recorder and workflow became productive once again. Only, it was limited and I needed more. The new DP24/32 SD is just what I’ve needed and now, I have one. Although I have developed a decent working knowledge through the years, David has brought me back to ground zero and armed me with a clear and concise path to accomplish what I started 40 something years ago. I will be buying more from this company as my needs grow. Absolute quality without the tech babble. The journey continues….Thank you for your vast experience and knowledge.
